I had to respond to Roberto (11/12/03). We can agree that the U.S. did defeat Mexicoalthough it didn'trequire an especially "..well organized and amazingly well executed..." effort. Mostlyit was possibleand rapidly accomplished because of enemy inefficiency. As to some sort of cultural war being wagedagainst Hispanicswe've all heard it before and it rings less true each time it is repeated. Anglosare force fed Spanishandunlike those Hispanic immigrants who come herewe have no choice. Walkinto your nearest Wal Mart and listen. The overt staringwhich I understand is part of this grand "culture is disconcerting to 13 year old girls and merely rude to everyone else. Also, how many government entities in Mexico would feel compelled to make their documents and proclamations understandable to me? The economic necessity of much of Mexico speaking at least some English is far different that the PC need of the American government to pander to Hispanics. Even our ATM's have to clarify if I am Hispanic before I can withdraw funds. As to Roberto's assertion that things would be different ...if..." only history would have occurreddifferentlywellit didn't happen differently. It's called history because it has already happened. It is immutablealthough it is possible to revise its account. If you doubt thisjust read Roberto'spedantic tirade. Thank you for your time.
