I am particularly pleased to see the photos. "A picture is worth a thousand words" is apt for this kindof site. If I were considering a move to this areathe pictures (and even more of them) would makethis attractive. Thanks....By the waycheck out the city of GoldenCO. They have an orgaization toteach the history of the area and involve as many people as possible in the local improvement of thecommunity.

Nice Site minority languagesbut in thecase of Spanish it simply will not hold. I offer only three words in refutation of this argumentnamely:(1) Argentina. (2) Spain. (3) Mexico. All of them countries that have been centers of culture and learningfor centuriesand each of them now important industrial centers. It is clear that Spanish is a "languageof wider communication"as are EnglishFrenchArabicSwahili etc; knowledge of Spanish is not a limitationon anybody's potential. As it happensbilingualism is never be a limitation on one's ability to achieve. One can pick up a second language withoutas is the common fearendangering one's proficiency in thefirst. Conversely the knowledge of two languages and cultures can be of enormous importance in developingcultural and social maturity. The question of Spanish limiting one's abilities can be heartily dismissed. There ishoweverone further aspect of this discussion: the matter of "language rights". This is anexpression you never hear in the United States; but it's all the rage in other parts of the world. Theidea is that people have a right to speak their own languages; to participate in the cultures that thoselanguages are the vehicle of; to be treated with dignity and respect regarding those linguistic and culturalidentities; and to ensure that their children will have the right to possess those languages and culturesas well. The principle has usually been applied to indigenous linguistic groups rather than to 'immigrant'languages (in Europefor exampleto languages like Catalan or Welshrather than Arabic or Turkishthat are spoken primarily by recent newcomers). I contend that Spanish is every bit as 'indigenous' toAmerica as English is (that isnot very!)and that the present wave of Spanish speaking immigrantsno more discredits Spanish as an 'immigrant' language than a flood of English speaking immigrants fromCanada or Britain would discredit English. My proposalthereforeis to declare English and Spanishthe joint official langu
